Partizan secure third place at the “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament in Athens — beat Bourg 101:77

Partizan’s basketball players have secured third place at the prestigious “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament taking place in Athens. The team led by Joan Penarroya defeated the French side Bourg, the reigning EuroCup champions, 101–77 in the bronze-medal game.

The quarter-by-quarter score (20:17, 29:28, 33:13, 19:19) shows that the key to victory was an incredible third period, which the Belgrade side won by the spectacular margin of 33:13, finally breaking the French rivals’ resistance and turning the rest of the game into a formality.

With this win, Partizan close their Athens campaign in the best possible way, after the disappointment of the semifinal, where they were dramatically stopped by Greek side PAOK 100–99 in a game decided in the final seconds.

In the other semifinal, Panathinaikos beat Bourg, securing their place in the grand final, where they will face PAOK for the “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament trophy.

Even though the trophy went to their rivals, Partizan’s showing in Athens — particularly the convincing win over the reigning EuroCup champions — offers optimism ahead of the new season’s challenges.
