PDK welcomes adoption of declaration on the Specialist Chambers: ‘Now it’s the law amendments’ turn’

The Democratic Party of Kosovo has welcomed the Assembly’s adoption of the declaration regarding the verdict of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.

In an announcement, the PDK thanked the parliamentary groups for supporting and harmonizing the text of the declaration, which had been proposed by the party’s parliamentary group.

“Today, the Assembly expressed its stance in defense of the truth of the liberation war and against a verdict it considers unjust. This is an important step of joint political will. Now that will must turn into concrete action,” the PDK announcement said.

The party demanded that the next step be the adoption of amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers, a draft law proposed by the PDK.

“Next in line is the Draft Law on amending and supplementing the Law on the Specialist Chambers, proposed by the PDK. We call on the Government to proceed with it in the Assembly without delay and on all parliamentary groups to treat and vote on it urgently,” it said.

According to the PDK, the Assembly-adopted declaration constitutes a political stance, while voting the draft law would be the “next step” for institutional action.

“The declaration expresses the Assembly’s stance. Voting the law is the next step in giving an institutional response to the demands we have raised,” the PDK stressed.

Finally, the party said it would continue its engagement for the defense of the KLA war and for a fair process for its former leaders.

“Today it was proven that joint will can be built to defend our values. Now we demand that the same will be shown in voting the law,” the announcement concluded, Telegrafi reports.
