Peleshi receives the U.S. congressional delegation: Let us strengthen the Albania–U.S. strategic partnership
The Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, received in a meeting the delegation of the United States House of Representatives, led by Congressman Vern Buchanan, Chair of the House Democracy Partnership. The U.S. Ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, was also present at the meeting. The meeting took place at an important moment for Albania, with the country in the final phase of the EU accession negotiation process and with an ever more active role within NATO and regional security.
At the centre of the discussion was the further strengthening of the Albania–U.S. strategic partnership, as well as cooperation in facing security challenges and preserving a stable and secure region. Speaker Peleshi and the American delegation also shared attention on accelerating Albania’s path towards the EU, valuing the importance of reforms and of strengthening democratic institutions as part of this process.
Another focus of the meeting was the expansion of economic cooperation and business relations, with the aim of creating more space for investment and partnerships between Albania and the U.S. The discussion also placed emphasis on the role of the Assembly and interparliamentary cooperation, as well as on the need for constructive dialogue among political forces and parliamentary groups for advancing reforms, increasing transparency and consolidating democratic institutions.
The meeting reconfirmed the importance of the Albania–U.S. partnership as an important strategic relationship for security, the protection of peace, Euro-Atlantic integration and the further development of the country.
