Persian Gulf Strait Authority: several tankers were attacked in Hormuz in recent days — three UAE-linked ships on the non-compliance list
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) said several tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, including three owned or chartered by the United Arab Emirates, as Al Jazeera reports, citing Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.
According to PGSA investigations, the tankers Al Ruwaiz, Sinbad and Mersin Prosperity “have attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz several times in the last two months”. The statement adds that all three ships are also on the authority’s non-compliance list — a list of ships that do not respect the navigation rules set by Tehran for the strait.
The statement follows a series of new incidents in the strait: the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a tanker was hit by an unknown projectile as it passed through Hormuz, causing a fire — the crew was reported safe, but the damage and environmental impact remain unknown.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s crude oil once passed, remains practically paralyzed by the seven-month war between the U.S. and Iran, with maritime traffic at the lowest levels ever recorded.
