Plenković hits back at Vučić after UN speech: “Continuing the baseless defamation campaign against Croatia”
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković reacted on Thursday to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly, declaring that the Serbian leader “continues the baseless defamation campaign against Croatia” instead of “covering himself in ashes.” The statement follows Vučić’s address at the 81st session of the General Assembly on Wednesday, September 23.
According to N1 info, Plenković said that Vučić, with his UN speech — in the original: “neutemeljenom difamirajućom kampanjom protiv Hrvatske umesto da se pospe pepelom” — is continuing a baseless defamation campaign against Croatia instead of facing the past and covering himself in ashes, as a statesman’s conduct requires.
In his New York speech, the Serbian president accused Croatia of “boasting about its Nazi past” and of having no moral right to lecture Serbia — comments that drew sharp reactions in Zagreb.
In the same address to the UN General Assembly, Vučić also declared that Serbia will never recognize Kosovo’s independence, sticking to official Belgrade’s position.
