Ponoš: Serbia has no functioning key institution left — all in caretaker mandates
Zdravko Ponoš, leader of the Srbija centar (SRCE) party and one of the lead candidates of the “Evropska Srbija” list, has said Serbia currently has no key institution fully functional — no prime minister, no president, no parliament, as the newspaper Danas writes.
“The prime minister is in a caretaker mandate, although even before he was only tasked with warming the chair. There is no president; there is an acting president, who is acting because he is the Assembly speaker, and the Assembly has meanwhile been dissolved,” Ponoš said on X, asking “what could go wrong in this situation.”
He noted that since SNS came to power, only one regular parliamentary election has been held in Serbia (2020), while snap elections took place in 2014, 2016, 2022, 2023 and 2026, according to Danas.
The Zeleno-levi front (ZLF) reacted by calling Vučić’s resignation “a miserable attempt to enter the campaign as a dignified prime ministerial candidate,” saying he has abused institutions.
Writer Gojko Božović, a ProGlas initiator, told the Beta agency that the problems Vučić created as president will take years and decades to resolve; “his only legacy is the crisis” and he “ruled as an all-powerful ruler.”
