Ponoš’s Srce: Losing the pro-European voice in Parliament would be Serbia’s historic downfall
The Serbia Centre (Srce) party of Zdravko Ponoš said today that losing the pro-European vote in Parliament could be a historic downfall for the country, and that the fight for European standards in institutions must not stop.
“If the new composition of the National Assembly has no political forces that openly, unambiguously and without calculations support Serbia’s full EU membership, our country will not only miss the current train to Europe — it will close those doors for a long time,” the party said in a statement.
Srce assessed that Serbia is at the most important historical crossroads of this century and risks remaining a “black hole on the map of Europe,” isolated and left alone, where “mafia interests and strong political and financial pressures from countries that want to keep it on the periphery of Europe” rule. The new generations, the party warns, will continue to leave en masse.
The survival of legitimate multi-party parliamentarism and the existence of a strong, loud and principled pro-integration option in Parliament is the only guarantee that the reform processes cannot be stopped, Srce stressed.
SRCE will take part in the October 25 elections with the “European Serbia” coalition, after a split with two Presidency members who opposed participating in the elections. Today’s party statement defends precisely the pro-EU platform of the coalition, stressing that the battle for European standards must continue inside the institutions.
