Powerful Storm Hits Evia; Pagontas–Derveni Road Closed After Landslides

A powerful storm with heavy rain hit central and northern Evia overnight Saturday, causing landslides and problems on the road network, as ProtoThema reports in this morning’s edition of September 27.

Authorities have temporarily closed the Pagontas–Derveni road to northern Euboea to traffic, according to a report by larissatime.gr, after landslides hit the road axis and made it impassable for vehicles.

The deputy regional governor of Evia, Jorgos Kelaiditis, told evima.gr that regional machinery and police forces have arrived at the scene, and the road will remain closed for preventive reasons until the intensity of the phenomenon subsides.

Police, the Fire Service and local government services are on high alert and monitoring the situation in the affected areas. Citizens are advised to exercise increased caution when moving around, as the risk of new landslides and water accumulation on roads remains high.

Authorities are expected to re-evaluate the situation in the coming hours and reopen traffic as soon as conditions allow. Travelers who have planned trips to northern Euboea are advised to inform themselves in advance about road conditions and follow police instructions.
