Pristina Protests After Hague Verdict Continue Into the Night: Rally in Central Square, Calls for Plenary Session
In the main square of Pristina, late in the evening, a large number of former KLA supporters and citizens gathered, carrying Albanian flags and flags of that organization, RTS reports. The demonstrators set off fireworks, and several times chants of “Death to traitors, freedom to the liberators” were heard.
The former deputy chairman of the Organization of Veterans of the former KLA, Nasim Haradinaj, called on the demonstrators to gather and make as their main demand to the MPs of the central Assembly that the verdict handed down in The Hague against the former leaders of the former KLA be discussed in plenary session.
Officials and MPs of the Democratic Party and the Alliance for the Future, Albanian parties that emerged from the war, joined the demonstrators. Police continue to secure government buildings in central Pristina, with a stronger presence than usual.
The citizens continue their protests in the square, promising not to attack the police and institutions. Those gathered call on citizens to express their opposition to today’s Hague verdict with determination, but in a dignified manner and without attacks on police or institutions. They have warned that the protests will continue and that citizens will not remain silent before the Hague court’s verdict, which they consider unjust.
