Protest in Kula Tonight After Arrest of Activist Accused of Attacking SNS Stand With Axe
Citizens of Kula gathered tonight in front of the police station to protest the arrest of Z.S. (56), who is suspected of first kicking and then smashing with an axe the stand of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), as well as striking an SNS activist with the axe handle, as Danas reports.
The protest was organized by the civic group “Mladi Kula,” which accuses the institutions of selective justice. According to its representatives, the police and prosecution have failed to act on more than 100 reports of the targeting, insults and threats against activists who support the students.
Dimitrije Simić of “Mladi Kula” says the campaign against the activists began a year ago, after they opposed Miloš Vučević being proclaimed the town’s “kum” (patron). Since then, he says, activists have faced insulting graffiti on their homes, digital violence and death threats.
The aim of tonight’s protest, according to the organizers, was to send a message against selective justice and to demand equal treatment of all citizens before the law.
