Qatar rejects Iranian threats against Middle East infrastructure: “Qatar does not give up on peace”
Qatar has condemned threats against Middle East infrastructure, whoever they come from, as Al Jazeera reports. Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said that “any threat is a violation of international law and of good neighbourliness”.
The statement came after Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf — who is also Iran’s chief negotiator — warned that if Iran cannot freely sell its oil, then no other Gulf country would be able to sell its own. If Iran’s security is not guaranteed, “no infrastructure in the region is safe from attacks,” he had said.
Al-Ansari added that the Gulf states did not choose to be part of the war and that Iran should stop aggression against regional countries. He also stressed that Qatar and other mediators continue to convey messages between Iran and the United States in an effort to end the seven-month conflict, acknowledging that “every mediation is a Herculean effort”.
“Even though it was itself attacked, Qatar does not give up on peace,” al-Ansari said, underscoring that Doha will continue its diplomatic efforts.
