Qatar’s Prime Minister: Regional Security Needs Respect for Sovereignty, Not Cycles of Escalation

Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, has warned that lasting security in the region cannot be built through repeated cycles of escalation and retaliation.

“Permanent security cannot be built through agreements that leave every state vulnerable to insecurity,” he said.

According to him, the region needs a framework in which sovereignty is respected and no state can pose a threat to another.

“We have worked with our regional and international partners to keep communication channels open and to lower tensions,” he added, calling for building trust and addressing the sources of tension.
