Rama briefs European Commission president on Zvërnec project: We will increase transparency with the public

Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced that he briefed the president of the European Commission on the progress of the major investment project in Zvërnec.

At the joint press conference, Rama stressed that the in-depth environmental study will soon be finalised, while the government is taking concrete steps to increase transparency toward Albanian citizens.

According to the prime minister, the briefing to the president of the European Commission included both the progress of the project and the measures taken for more open interaction with the public, using new technology tools.

“I want to let it be known that I informed the president both about the progress of the major investment project that has sparked so much interest… where the in-depth environmental study will soon [come], while also informing her of the steps we have taken to increase transparency with the Albanian public and the government’s interaction through new technology tools. We will switch on the mirror of all the documents and the entire process, everything that is written in black and white, for the much-discussed project,” Rama declared.

As for the integration process, Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania is preparing to begin closing EU negotiation chapters before the end of this year.

“I believe that again this time, in the president’s and her delegation’s visit to Tirana, there is much positive content in relation to the shared objectives we have. I want to confirm once again publicly our iron will to move forward all the work of a process that has now entered the phase of closing chapters; we are preparing to start closing chapters, soon, specifically before the end of this year, and then to continue intensively with a considerable part already opened,” Rama said.

The prime minister stressed that Von der Leyen’s visit to Tirana brings positive content for shared objectives and confirmed the Albanian government’s strong commitment to accelerating the membership process.
