Rama did not mention the KLA leaders’ conviction at the UN
Albanian prime minister Edi Rama delivered his speech today at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Albanian prime minister’s address focused mainly on artificial intelligence and “minister Diella,” without mentioning at all the conviction of former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
Rama’s silence contrasts with the stance he took at the Albanian-American Relations Council gala evening, also in New York, where the Albanian prime minister recalled Hashim Thaçi, saying that “this country did not do its best for Thaçi, for Kosovo’s George Washington.”
Earlier, in 2022, Rama had used the UN rostrum precisely to speak about Thaçi’s trial and the Dick Marty report, which he had described as “horrific.”
On September 16, the Special Court sentenced the former KLA leaders in the first instance: Hashim Thaçi to 25 years in prison, Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years, Kadri Veseli to 18 years and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years in prison, KosovaPress reports.
