“Ramayana: Rise of a Legend” gets its official title: Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana in the new poster — world premiere on November 6
On September 28, on Ranbir Kapoor’s birthday, the production behind Indian cinema’s most ambitious mythological epic unveiled the official identity of its first part: “Ramayana: Rise of a Legend,” as Variety India reports. The announcement was accompanied by a new poster, released by Sony Pictures, showing Kapoor as Lord Ram opposite Yash as Ravana, with the tagline “Mankind’s greatest story comes to life.”
According to Sony Pictures, the film opens in cinemas worldwide on November 6, 2026, at the time of the Diwali festival, in Hindi and English, in IMAX, 3D and other premium formats. The studio presents it as “the most immersive 3D cinematic experience ever,” filmed specifically for IMAX.
“Ramayana: Rise of a Legend” is the first part of a two-part adaptation of the ancient Sanskrit epic, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the director of “Dangal,” and produced by Namit Malhotra. Alongside Kapoor and Yash, the cast includes Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Arun Govil as King Dasharath. The music is by Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, while the visual effects are by DNEG, the company behind films such as “Dune” and “Interstellar.”
Together with the poster, the filmmakers also released a behind-the-scenes video, “This Is Our Rama: BTS,” in which Kapoor talks about his transformation into the role of Rama. “Lord Rama’s greatest power is not his bow, it is Kshama — his forgiving nature, his ability to forgive,” he says in the video, as quoted by Variety India. “This is not a role. It is not as if I was offered a film and the role was exciting. This is a responsibility.” The second part of the epic is expected to follow in 2027.
