Rasim Ljajić: Our Goal Is to Be the Decisive Factor in Forming the Next Government After the October 25 Elections
Rasim Ljajić, the head of the joint electoral list of the Sandžak Democratic Party (SDP) and the Democratic Party of Montenegro (CDP), told the FoNet news agency today that he has “lent his name” to the list to give it visibility, but is not running as a candidate for parliament. The list will compete as a national-minority list, meaning the natural threshold applies to it along with the right to 35 percent additional mandates.
The goal, he said, is to secure as many mandates as possible and for the list to be the decisive factor in forming the next government after the snap parliamentary elections of October 25. Ljajić explained why the SDP and the SDPS are running separately this time: in an atmosphere he calls a “referendum” between two large political blocs, fears arose of failing to cross the threshold, a situation he compares to the German CDU/CSU model.
He denied that the list is the product of political calculations and said he felt his engagement as a duty to the people who have voted for him over the years. The cooperation, he said, aims only at improving the electoral position in a polarized political scene.
The snap parliamentary elections in Serbia are held on October 25, while the national-minority list expects to benefit from the natural-threshold rule to secure representation in parliament.
