Rooney defends the ‘cousins’: United do not deserve the Premier League titles if they are taken from City

According to Wayne Rooney, Manchester United do not deserve the Premier League titles if they were to be taken from Manchester City for breaching financial rules. City will appeal against possible sanctions, which could include the removal of 8 Premier League championship titles won from 2008 to today.

Two of Rooney’s former teammates at United, Rio Ferdinand and David de Gea, have claimed that the old club should be awarded the titles in that case. Rooney thinks United and any other club cannot accept these titles, as they finished in second place.

“To be honest, I don’t feel like accepting the titles, because I believe we don’t deserve them,” the former striker said on the ‘Stick to United’ podcast. “I put myself in the place of the City players. They have done everything to win the Premier League titles and have achieved their goal. If it happened to me that it suddenly emerged that Manchester United had done the same thing and my Premier League title was taken away, I would be completely devastated.”
