Russian bombs hit a residential area of Kharkiv: five killed and 53 wounded
Russian air strikes on Monday hit a residential area in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, killing at least five people and wounding 53 others, as Reuters reports.
Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov announced on Telegram that three bombs struck different areas of the city. According to him, 30 of the wounded are receiving medical assistance in hospitals, three of them in serious condition, while among the wounded there are also three children.
Mayor Ihor Terehov said rescue teams pulled two bodies from the rubble. The facades and balconies of residential buildings were badly damaged, apartments were destroyed from inside, while rescuers pulled shocked residents from among piles of rubble; surrounding warehouses also suffered damage.
Resident Viktoriia Nahornyak told Reuters television, amid the sounds of alarm sirens, that she had seen two wounded neighbours covered in blood: “My daughter went outside, and our cat ran away… I only took the documents and went outside in the clothes I am wearing.” Among the victims, one resident was found dead in his bed, while another body lay on the ground, covered with a blanket.
Kharkiv, about 30 kilometres from the Russian border, remains under constant Russian attacks since the start of the invasion in February 2022, according to Reuters.
