Russian strikes kill 11 and injure dozens more over the past 24 hours in Ukraine

Russian air strikes on Ukraine killed at least 11 people and injured dozens more over the past day, according to local authorities.

In the northeastern Kharkiv Oblast, five people were killed and 15 injured in Russian strikes, Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported, adding that Russian forces had fired two missiles, five guided aerial bombs and nearly 60 drones at targets across the region.

The strikes reportedly hit the villages of Lypkuvativka, Velykyi Burluk and Slatyne, as well as the cities of Kharkiv and Balakliia, among others.

Two people were also killed and five injured after a wave of drone attacks, air strikes and artillery shelling across the southern Kherson region of Ukraine, according to the Kherson Regional State Administration.

“Russian troops struck critical infrastructure, as well as residential neighborhoods in the region’s settlements, damaging, in particular, five high-rise buildings and seven private houses,” it said in a statement posted on Telegram.

In Donetsk, in the east of the country, one person was killed in the city of Kramatorsk, while 13 people were injured across the region.

A 51-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman were also killed after a guided missile hit a high-rise building in the northern Sumy Oblast, authorities said. A 32-year-old man also died after a drone strike in the region.

Sumy’s Regional Military Administration reported 50 attacks on 21 settlements from Friday to Saturday morning, with Russian forces reportedly launching drones, mortars, artillery and guided aerial bombs.

This comes as Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia had fired two “Zircon” missiles from its Kursk region, as well as 174 drones toward Ukraine overnight.

“According to preliminary data, as of 8 a.m., air defense forces have shot down or neutralized 141 targets,” the force said, adding that strikes had been recorded at 15 locations.

On Saturday, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said it had activated air defense measures and scrambled military aircraft in response to Russian drone strikes on Ukraine.

“These measures are preventive in nature and aim at ensuring and protecting Polish airspace, especially in regions adjacent to the threatened areas,” it said in a statement.
