Saudi coalition says it intercepted four Houthi drones and two ballistic missiles over Saudi Arabia
The interceptions took place over the city of Khamis Mushait and the Jazan region, amid a sharp escalation between Riyadh and the Iran-backed group.
The Saudi-led coalition announced that it intercepted and destroyed four drones launched by Yemen’s Houthis over the southern city of Khamis Mushait, as well as two ballistic missiles over Khamis Mushait and Jazan, Al Jazeera reports.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said in a post on X that the group “continues to take and implement operational measures to deter the Houthi terrorist militia”.
The interceptions come amid a sharp escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthis in recent weeks, with mutual missile and drone attacks that have also hit energy infrastructure.
Khamis Mushait, where a key Saudi air base is located, has repeatedly been targeted by Houthi attacks, while Saudi authorities have issued urgent security warnings in several cities of the kingdom.
