School of Magistrates, Sadushi: A judge’s independence is not a privilege, but a guarantee for the citizen
The President of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, has emphasised the responsibility, independence and integrity of future judges and prosecutors.
In his speech at the opening ceremony of the new 2026-2027 academic year of the School of Magistrates, Sadushi addressed the new students, stressing that in the future they will bear important responsibilities in the justice system.
Addressing the future magistrates, the President of the Supreme Court dwelt in particular on the concept of the judge’s independence.
According to Sadushi, the judge’s duty requires that decision-making be based on justice and not on pressures or considerations that might make a decision easier to take.
“The School of Magistrates trains professionals who tomorrow will be entrusted with important responsibilities. The more important the competence the law recognises for a public official, the greater the responsibility with which it is exercised. For you who will become judges, independence is not a privilege, but the citizens’ guarantee. It is proven when the fairest decision is not the easiest, most popular or most convenient decision.
For you who will become prosecutors, the power of the prosecution lies not in its harshness, but in its fairness. Equally important is awareness of the weight of public power. Its exercise must not turn into routine, because the decisions taken affect people’s rights, interests and lives themselves. Albania has invested a lot in reforming the justice system, but no reform can be better than the people who exercise it”, Sadushi said.
