SDSM: Mickoski is selling out North Macedonia — data centers that ‘eat’ electricity, an antimony mine that ‘eats’ land
The opposition SDSM has accused Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who is on a working visit to Washington, of “selling out North Macedonia,” arguing that the government has no economic results to show for itself.
In a sharp statement, SDSM said: “From Washington he brought new goods. Data centers that eat electricity. An antimony mine that eats land. The same sentence: strategy, wealth, standard. The same method: figures without papers, a project without a name, and the people will pay later.”
According to the opposition, “what is antimony? No fairy tales. Metal.” SDSM representative Keti Shterjova said Mickoski is selling the country’s land, water, minerals and natural resources to companies — deciding on his own, without asking the people. SDSM is demanding a referendum so that citizens can decide whether they want mines where they live, warning that the antimony mine is dangerous.
SDSM called Mickoski’s claim that data centers would “drink” water a “new manipulation,” stressing that they would consume electricity — energy which, according to the opposition, the prime minister himself imports.
Mickoski presented in Washington an ambitious plan to link gas and electricity infrastructure with data centers and high-tech investments. For the antimony project near Kriva Palanka, the United States has provided $5 million to develop the project, stressing that “this is only the beginning.”
