Sedloski ahead of historic Nations League debut: “It doesn’t matter who Switzerland fields — only we matter”
The North Macedonia national team is counting the hours toward the most important match of this early season: on Saturday, at 20:45, it will face Switzerland at the “Todor Proeski” National Arena in Skopje. The challenge, the first in history between the two national teams, also marks North Macedonia’s debut in League B of the Nations League, in group B1.
At the official press conference on the eve of the match, coach Goce Sedloski appeared pleased with the week of work and determined for a positive result. “These four training sessions everyone completed at maximum. I am super pleased with all the players, everyone knows what they have to do on the pitch,” he said. “You have to play against every rival, even against mighty Switzerland. With the help of the public I believe we can achieve a positive result.”
Sedloski stressed that the team does not fear the rival, the recent World Cup quarterfinalist. “We don’t look too much at the opponent — we know they have a strong team, even without those who are missing. However, I want to think that only we ourselves matter,” the coach said, adding that all footballers are healthy and training well — the only exception is Nikolov, who will not be available.
The coach revealed that additional information about Switzerland was provided by players Rastoder and Alioski, who know Swiss football well. He also spoke in positive tones about the first contact with the young talent Matej Gaštarov from Crvena Zvezda, who wants to wear the North Macedonia jersey — his activation in this duel will be decided after today’s final training session.
This is Sedloski’s fifth match at the helm of the national team, but the first on home soil. A packed stadium and great support for the national team are expected in Skopje.
