Serbia: ‘Parent-caregiver’ status from October 1 — applications via eUprava, compensation 65,000 dinars
Serbia’s Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Affairs, Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, held a meeting at the Palace of Serbia with social work center employees, where trainings for the implementation of the Parent-Caregiver Law were presented. Tutorials, videos and photos explaining each step of the application procedure have been prepared.
The Ministry’s SOS line, where citizens can ask about this right, opens on October 1. Meanwhile, professional workers and lawyers at social work centers will have a dedicated communication platform for coordinating procedures.
After submitting the request and documentation, most of the data will be collected electronically from other systems. Social work centers have a 15-day deadline to make a decision; a contract with the Ministry is then signed, through which the parent gains parent-caregiver status.
The monthly compensation is set at 65,000 dinars, with taxes and contributions paid (gross around 90,000 dinars), while the amount will be adjusted in line with the nominal growth of the average wage. The right belongs to parents who are neither employed nor pensioners — with no work history and no pension, health or disability insurance — and who care for children or adults receiving the increased care and assistance allowance. This right does not take away other existing rights: children continue to receive the increased allowance (now 42,500 dinars) and community services such as day care and personal companions.
The minister also announced the newly licensed inclusive assistant service for children who have completed schooling and need further support, stressing that the law is the first step in the institutional recognition of the parent-caregiver status.
