Serbian Justice Ministry refuses to enforce Vučić’s pardons: “We don’t know who he pardoned”

Serbia’s Justice Ministry announced on Tuesday that it will not take part in the procedure to implement the pardons that former president Aleksandar Vučić proclaimed shortly before his resignation on September 27, declaring that the institution has no knowledge of who the 49 pardoned persons are, as the Beta agency reports, cited by N1.

According to the ministry, Vučić himself selected the 49 people for pardon — among them 12 activists and students of the so-called “Novi Sad group”, accused of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order, and 11 people involved in incidents with protesters on the other side — without following the regular procedure through the Justice Ministry.

The refusal marks an open institutional clash: the pardons and abolitions were announced by Vučić as the final acts of his presidential term, but the ministry now says it will not take part in their implementation, casting doubt on the practical effect of the decisions.

The development comes two days after Vučić’s resignation, which he submitted on September 27, seven months before the end of his second term, and now he is running as the lead candidate of the SNS list “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia” in the snap parliamentary elections of October 25.
