Shots fired during anti-drug operation in Krujë, police react: Officer fired into the air to scare off wild animals
Tirana Police have reacted to reports of gunfire during an anti-drug operation in Krujë on Tuesday, saying a police officer fired into the air to scare off wild forest animals.
According to police, the lack of mobile phone signal made communication with other control groups impossible, and they initially suspected the shots had been fired by someone else. The operation was aimed at preventing and cracking down on attempts to cultivate cannabis in Krujë, where around 300 cannabis plants were found and destroyed.
Full statement:
“Tirana Police structures, in cooperation with the National Security Force, are carrying out territorial checks in the Krujë district to prevent and crack down on cannabis cultivation attempts, in cooperation with the Police Oversight Agency.
Police services were divided into several groups in different areas.
Around 11:30, a police officer, part of a control group in a forested mountainous area of the Cudhi Administrative Unit, fired into the air with a firearm to scare off the danger from wild forest animals. In the absence of telephone signal, communication with the other control groups was impossible, and initially, when the other groups heard the shots, they suspected someone had fired at them.
With the case clarified and legally documented, police services continue field checks to identify and crack down on narcotic plant cultivation cases. So far, around 300 cannabis plants have been found and destroyed.”
