Siljanovska-Davkova Meets French Senate Delegation: North Macedonia’s Road to Brussels “Unnaturally Long”
North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met with a delegation of the French Senate, with whom she discussed the country’s European path, the President’s Cabinet announced on September 25, as the MIA news agency reports.
During the meeting, Siljanovska-Davkova said that France is an “important friend and partner” on North Macedonia’s European road.
She stressed that North Macedonia’s road to Brussels is “unnaturally and illogically long”: instead of passing through the Copenhagen criteria, it passes through the metropolises of neighboring EU member states, facing obstacles and conditions of an identity nature, instead of reform-based ones.
The meeting comes at a moment when Macedonian diplomacy has intensified activities to unblock the EU accession process, while the country awaits the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as part of her regional tour of the Western Balkans.
