Sony sets December 10, 2027 for “24 Jump Street”: Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube return

After years of uncertain development, Sony Pictures has finally made the decision fans were waiting for: the third film in the “Jump Street” comedy franchise officially has a premiere date. According to the studio’s cinema calendar update, made on Wednesday, as ComingSoon reports in its article on the release date, “24 Jump Street” will open in cinemas on December 10, 2027 — 13 years after “22 Jump Street” conquered the box office with $331.3 million in 2014.

The return is the one that was expected: Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are back as the undercover police officers Jenko and Schmidt, while Ice Cube returns in the role of Captain Dickson, their permanently irritated boss. All three actors are officially attached to the project, after in June they were still only in talks to return, according to reports at the time.

Behind the camera, directing is Rodney Rothman, co-writer of “22 Jump Street” and an Oscar winner, who wrote the new script together with Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors of the first two films, return this time as producers, together with Neal H. Moritz. The film’s very title continues the franchise’s joke: instead of “23 Jump Street”, it jumps straight to 24 — and the script cover that Moritz revealed on Instagram in June explains it itself: “It took so long we had to skip one”.

The chosen date is not accidental: “24 Jump Street” opens a week before two giant blockbusters of December 17, 2027, “Avengers: Secret Wars” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum”. In the same calendar update Sony also set November 11, 2027 for Ridley Scott’s “Treasure Island” starring Hugh Jackman, while pushing the “Helldivers” game adaptation to June 9, 2028.

The road here has not been easy. Sony once planned to combine the franchise with “Men in Black” in the crossover “MIB 23”, a project that got as far as a title and a director before disappearing; its official death was confirmed in 2019. Now, after more than a decade of uncertainty, Schmidt and Jenko finally have a date marked on the calendar.
