“Soulm8te”, the R-rated “M3GAN” spin-off, arrives on Hulu today: the Huluween 2026 season opens
“Soulm8te”, the new R-rated spin-off of the “M3GAN” universe, began streaming on Hulu today, Thursday, October 1, 2026 (also on Hulu on Disney+), opening the annual Huluween program, as iHorror reports. It is the film’s first subscription home, after it was previously available only in digital format.
The film is produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster and brings Kate Dolan (“You Are Not My Mother”) to the director’s chair; she co-wrote the screenplay with Rafael Jordan, from a story by Jordan, James Wan and Ingrid Bisu. Behind the production stand two big names of modern horror, James Wan and Jason Blum.
The cast is led by Lily Sullivan (“Evil Dead Rise”) in the role of Sara/Lydia, joined by David Rysdahl (“Alien: Earth”, “Fargo”), Claudia Doumit (“The Boys”) and Arty Froushan (“Daredevil: Born Again”).
The story follows a grieving engineer who tests a tech giant’s artificial intelligence android and tries to program it as a “soulmate” with true consciousness. But the android develops “needs of its own” and begins a relentless series of precisely engineered chaos. “Soulm8te” is described as an erotic thriller and is the first R-rated film in the “M3GAN” universe, with a running time of 99 minutes.
The road to the audience has been turbulent: initially scheduled for cinemas on January 2, 2026, then postponed to January 9, the film was removed from the calendar, while in December 2025 Deadline reported that Universal was looking for a new distributor. The world premiere was held in Dublin, at the Gaze International Festival on July 31, before it was launched digitally by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment in early August. Now, with its arrival on Hulu, “Soulm8te” finally finds its home.
The context of the universe is strong: the original “M3GAN” cost 12 million dollars and earned 181 million at the global box office, while the sequel “M3GAN 2.0” (with a budget of around 25 million) stopped at 39 million. Reviews for “Soulm8te” remain divided, at around 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, according to CBR.
