“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” tops $950 million in North America — the first film in history to do it

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” made history this weekend, becoming the first film ever to cross the $950 million mark at the North American box office. According to data from Box Office Mojo, as Koimoi reports, Sony’s film grossed $1 million on its ninth Friday, bringing its total to $947.6 million after Friday — while with an estimated $3.5–4 million for the ninth weekend, the total is expected to reach around $950.7 million.

The weekend figures are still preliminary estimates, but the record is already a fact: the Global Box Office account notes that “Brand New Day” is the first film in history to cross $950 million in the U.S. market and the first film of this decade to sell more than 70 million tickets in North America. As ComicBasics writes, the film continues to fill theaters even in its ninth week of release, a rare staying power in the era of digital platforms.

The context makes the achievement even more impressive: director Destin Daniel Cretton’s film, starring Tom Holland, opened in cinemas on July 31, 2026, and on September 16 surpassed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($936.66 million), becoming the highest-grossing film of all time in the U.S. and Canada. Globally, “Brand New Day” has grossed $2.48 billion — third in cinema history, behind “Avatar” and “Avengers: Endgame.”

Box office experts predict the film will continue its march toward $960 million in America before the end of its theatrical run — a figure that until recently seemed unattainable for any Hollywood production.
