“Spiritual World”: Kristen Stewart reunites with Olivier Assayas for supernatural drama with star cast, filming starts February 2027
Kristen Stewart and French director Olivier Assayas will work together once again, this time on the film “Spiritual World” — as Variety exclusively reveals and ComingSoon reports. The supernatural drama pairs the “Twilight” star with Vicky Krieps, Riley Keough and Wagner Moura, while Barbara Sukowa and Niels Schneider round out the international cast.
Stewart will play Ada, a haunted young clairvoyant troubled by mysterious premonitions, as the story ventures into the territory of the unknown. The film is described as a “steamier” version of “Personal Shopper” — their 2016 supernatural thriller for which Assayas won the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival.
It will be the third collaboration between Stewart and Assayas: the two first worked together on “Clouds of Sils Maria” (2014), for which Stewart won the César for best supporting actress, and then on “Personal Shopper”. The director is also reuniting with producer Olivier Delbosc through his Curiosa Films studio, with ARTE France as co-financier.
Filming is scheduled to begin in February 2027 and run through April, in France and Germany; the film does not yet have a release date. The news comes right after the Venice world premiere of Assayas’s latest film, “The Wizard of the Kremlin” starring Jude Law as Vladimir Putin — an ambitious political production shown at the Italian festival. Meanwhile, Stewart has just made her directorial debut with “The Chronology of Water” and was seen at Cannes 2026 in Quentin Dupieux’s “Full Phil”.
