Sports funding scheme changes: new criteria and the 2027 application deadline

The Agency for Sport has announced a change to the sports funding scheme under the new sports law and the new funding regulation, with new criteria focused more on sporting success and results.

Fidan Shatri of the Agency for Sport announced that direct financial support for sports organizations in the 2021–2026 period reached around 52 million euros, while around 83 million euros were generated for sports organizations and around 9 million euros for sports federations through the sponsorship law.

According to the figures he gave: 2021 around 4.5 million euros; 2022 around 5.3 million; 2023 around 13.739 million; 2024 around 9.8 million; 2025 around 11.1 million; while in 2026 so far around 7.5 million euros. The budget increase, according to him, was a demand of the sports community itself.

Federations have until September 30 to apply for funding for 2027. Changes are also announced in the incentive schemes and permanent support for athletes and coaches, while the regulation will clarify medal bonuses to avoid ambiguities between Olympic and non-Olympic sports.

Under the new criteria, team sports will be treated separately from individual sports, while in individual sports 50 percent of the points will be tied to the successes achieved by the sports federations, as KosovaPress reports.
