Srdanovic in Kragujevac: “No despotism, no head of state — the Constitution must apply to everyone”
Two groups of student cyclists, the “Guardians of the Constitution,” arrived in Kragujevac on Saturday after ten days of pedaling across Serbia. In the city known as the cradle of modern Serbian constitutionalism, they were welcomed by a large crowd of citizens in a warm, festive atmosphere.
Ilija Srdanovic, the top candidate of the Student List “Students Win,” spoke to television channel N1 immediately after the arrival, pledging a radical turnaround: “No despotism, no head of state.” “Tired as we are — we came to the place where we received the first modern Constitution and now we bring the one that is in force and applies to everyone. We can promise only one thing: that it must always apply to everyone, that no one can be above the Constitution,” he declared.
Srdanovic described the atmosphere of the welcome during the ten-day journey through Serbian villages and towns as indescribable. According to him, the emotions from the people they met along the way were “95 percent positive” from every car and every passerby.
The main program of the rally in Kragujevac began at 6:00 p.m., with speeches by Student List candidates Ana Mirkoviq, Mario Reljanoviq, Aleksandar Cvetkoviq, Daliborka Puriq and Jovan Vujiqiq. This is the third major rally organized by the students, while the “Students Win” list holds number 3 on the ballot for the October 25 parliamentary elections, as Danas reports.
