Police stop vehicles carrying students’ election material in Belgrade: fine for improper parking and an extraordinary technical inspection
The students in blockade who have fielded the list “Studentski pokret – Studenti pobeđuju” announce that police in Belgrade on Thursday evening stopped the vehicles transporting their pre-election material, as the newspaper Danas reports, referring to the announcement published on the blokade.org website.
According to the announcement, a van arrived in front of the building where the space used by the students is located; a police officer from the Dedinje station ordered the driver to move it away, which he did immediately. Afterwards, several young people from Kragujevac were asked to go to the police station, where a fine for improper parking was written and an extraordinary technical inspection was ordered, with the explanation that otherwise their licence plates would be removed.
Economic crime inspectors also appeared at the scene, among them two inspectors who had taken part in the first raid on the students’ warehouse. According to the students, they did not approach, but as soon as the lawyer arrived, they got into the official vehicle. The driver was tested for alcohol and the result was 0.00; accompanied by the lawyer, they were sent for the extraordinary technical inspection in Kvantaš.
Ahead of the early parliamentary elections of October 25, where the student list “Studenti pobeđuju” (Students Win) is competing as one of the main forces against Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party, the police actions against the students’ campaign infrastructure have drawn the attention of domestic and international observers.
