Starović in Washington: Serbia’s full EU membership remains a strategic commitment

Nemanja Starović, the minister for European integration in a technical mandate, spoke at a special panel of the Quincy Institute in Washington, as the Serbian news agency Tanjug reports. He declared that Serbia’s full membership of the European Union remains a strategic commitment and that the Serbian government continues to implement the reforms needed for progress in the accession negotiations.

According to Tanjug’s reporting, Starović stressed the importance of Serbia’s European perspective in the current geopolitical circumstances, underlining that the EU’s enlargement policy must retain its credibility: the reforms and results of candidate countries must be followed by concrete progress in the accession process.

He said that Serbia aims to have implemented all the necessary reforms by the end of 2027 and to be ready for membership, acknowledging that formal admission also depends on decisions that are not solely within Serbia’s competence, Tanjug reports.

Starović added that Serbia, in complex international circumstances, pursues a responsible and predictable foreign policy, defending its state and national interests. The visit to Washington is part of Serbia’s wider contacts with American institutions and the expert public.
