State apartments in instalments up to 30 years: who becomes an owner and who stays only as a tenant
The proposed amendments to the Housing Law in North Macedonia foresee new rules for state apartments, as Racini reports. A household’s income will determine whether long-term users of state apartments will be able to become their owners or will continue to pay rent.
According to Racini’s reporting, beneficiaries of social assistance or permanent monetary assistance will not be able to buy the apartment where they live: for them, only rent is foreseen. The change aims for state apartments to be dedicated to those who really need shelter.
Also according to Racini, the proposal foresees that state apartments can be bought in instalments up to 30 years, with interest of 4 per cent, making ownership more accessible for families with limited income.
The document also foresees protective measures, as Racini writes: citizens will not be able to do business with state apartments and resale at a higher price will not be allowed.
