Steve Buscemi joins DC’s animated ‘Dynamic Duo’ — to play the villain

Steve Buscemi is officially part of the voice cast of DC’s animated film “Dynamic Duo”. The news was reported exclusively by Deadline on September 24, revealing that the actor known from “The Sopranos”, “Fargo” and “Boardwalk Empire” will play the villain — Red Hood Two.

According to Deadline’s sources, Buscemi joins a cast that already includes Mason Thames (rumored as Dick Grayson), Logan Kim as Jason Todd and Lee Pace as Red Hood One. Further character details remain under wraps.

“Dynamic Duo” is produced by DC Studios together with Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho company and is made by the animation studio Swaybox, using the so-called “Momo animation” technique — a combination of CGI, stop-motion, puppets and live-action performance, which critics compare to the revolutionary visual style of “Spider-Verse”.

The screenplay was written by Matt Aldrich. The story follows Dick and Jason as two street teenagers who call themselves the “dynamic duo”, but their paths diverge: Dick becomes Batman’s Robin, while Jason is recruited by the Red Hood gang. James Gunn had announced the project back in 2024 as something “special” for DC’s cinematic universe.

According to published information, the film’s theatrical release is scheduled for September 22, 2028.
