Students protest intercity ticket price hikes; Janevska: We will act within budgetary possibilities
Students in North Macedonia are reacting to the rise in intercity bus ticket prices, warning that travel costs are becoming unaffordable for them. Students commuting for example on the Tetovo–Skopje return line, or in both directions on the Kumanovo–Skopje line, must pay around 6,000 denars a month just for transport.
Student organizations are calling for bus transport to be subsidized for students studying away from home. According to them, many students depend on daily transport to attend lectures and high prices are jeopardizing the continuity of their studies.
Regarding the students’ demands, Education Minister Vesna Janevska said that so far no initiative has reached her from students. According to her, when the initiative arrives, it will be reviewed and a decision will be made within budgetary possibilities.
