Tahiri on the Specialist Chambers law: Tomorrow there must be no games

Besnik Tahiri, head of the Alliance parliamentary group, has called on Kosovo’s Assembly to approve the Specialist Chambers law in both readings at tomorrow’s session, stressing that the process should not be turned into a political battle.

Tahiri, in a post, said that during the second reading it should be carefully verified whether anything has been left out by the Legislation Committee and, if necessary, amendments that improve the law should be made.

"Tomorrow there must be no games with either reading," Tahiri wrote.

He called for the issue to be treated responsibly and not turned into a political contest over who presents themselves better or louder.

According to Tahiri, approving the law should be only the starting point of a broader institutional commitment by Kosovo in defence of its history and liberation war.

"Tomorrow should be a new beginning," he stressed.

Tahiri asked that over the next two years the state of Kosovo show seriousness in relation to the court process in The Hague, building an institutional, sustainable and responsible approach to defending the history and the truth about the liberation war.

"Tomorrow should not be the end of a debate, but the beginning of greater state work for the liberators," Tahiri concluded.
