Student List blocks Belgrade’s main boulevards at the “Guardians of the Homeland” rally
The Student List launched its rally called "Guardians of the Homeland" in Belgrade this evening, as the Serbian newspaper Danas reports. Citizens blocked King Alexander Boulevard and Roosevelt Street, where the gathering is being held.
Those gathered carried the flags of citizens’ assemblies, banners with the number 3 — the list’s number on the ballot — and inscriptions reading "The students will win", as well as flags of Serbia. Music was heard from loudspeakers, Danas reports, while the Nova television channel is following the rally with video from the scene.
The rally comes in the middle of the campaign for the early parliamentary elections of October 25, in which the Student List "The Students Will Win" is running against the SNS list headed by former president Aleksandar Vučić, who is seeking the post of prime minister.
The October 25 elections were called after almost two years of student and civic protests that began following the collapse of the railway station canopy in Novi Sad in November 2024. The Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) officially proclaimed the Student List "The Students Will Win" with number 3 on the ballot, after verifying more than 69,000 valid signatures collected from citizens.
