Tahiri: Ramush Haradinaj is the profile and leader Kosovo needs for president
Besnik Tahiri, deputy leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, has said Prime Minister Albin Kurti has shown no will to reach an agreement on electing the country’s president, as he told KosovaPress.
In the interview, Tahiri stressed that the Alliance has no need for a meeting with Kurti, since it has still received no answer to the six demands it has addressed to the government — including the matter of American gas.
According to Tahiri, the consultation process so far has been “for public consumption” and its aim is to prevent the election of a president. “Ramush Haradinaj is the profile and leader Kosovo needs for president,” he said, adding that the Alliance is ready to contribute to an institutional solution.
Tahiri recalled that the country has until October 6 to elect the president, otherwise it goes to new elections, no later than November 15. He said the Alliance is ready for new elections and expects to emerge strengthened from them.
On December 28, Tahiri said, the first plenary session of the eleventh legislature of the Kosovo Assembly convenes. He also warned that a statement of the Assembly against the conviction of the four KLA leaders by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague is expected — a statement with no legal effect but with political effect, which obliges the government to act.
Finally, the Alliance’s deputy leader asked the government to return to the Assembly the legal amendments on the Specialist Court no later than next week, so that the institutions keep pace with developments.
