Tensions on Knez Mihajlova Street in Belgrade: After the Environmental Protest, a Verbal Clash Between Student Supporters and SNS Supporters
After the environmental organizations’ protest in Terazije, a large group of citizens headed to Knez Mihajlova Street to support the students, who had set up a promotional stand there. Only about 20 meters away stood the stand of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), and the proximity of the two groups led to a verbal clash between them.
Citizens chanted “students win” and “it’s over,” while for several minutes the atmosphere was very tense. However, that was all it was: the student monitor called on those gathered through a megaphone to move away from the SNS stand, and they left.
At one point, SNS supporters threw a plastic bottle at the students’ stand, but there was no response from the students. Instead, they played the song “Tri poljupca hoću ja” from their loudspeakers and then danced the Užičko kolo.
