“The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway” returns November 2: “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail to be honored
“The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway” returns this fall: the annual gala evening will be held on November 2 at the Todd Haimes Theatre, it was announced Friday. This year, the performance will be held in honor of Thomas Kail, the Tony Award-winning director of the phenomenon “Hamilton” and an early supporter of the organization.
The tradition is well known in the theater world: stars of stage, television and film gather to write, rehearse and perform brand-new pieces — all within 24 hours. The cast and creative teams of this year’s edition are expected to be announced soon.
Kail, in a statement, called “The 24 Hour Plays” a wonderful organization: “It is the place where I worked for the first time on a Broadway stage and where I met many of my most enduring collaborators,” he said, adding that many of them will take part this year.
Artistic director Mark Armstrong described Kail as a special artist and an early member of “The 24 Hour Plays” family: “His extraordinary body of work on stage and on screen embodies the value of building strong and sustainable artistic communities, which is at the heart of our mission.” Tickets are on sale at the official website 24HourPlays.org.
