The drying of the Kasharaj Reservoir, the expert: It will take 20 years for the fauna to return!

More than 300 tonnes of fish died after the construction company “FLED sh.p.k.”, contracted by the Municipality of Lushnja to rehabilitate the discharge outlet at the Kasharaj Reservoir, undertook to dry out the reservoir without first consulting experts on the fauna of the water system.

The building permit for “FLED sh.p.k.” was issued on 24 June 2025 and the works were supposed to be completed within 120 days. But this delay was taken to study the terrain, and this is evident from the ecological catastrophe caused by the excavators.

For the Kasharaj Reservoir to have the same wealth of living creatures again, nature will need little money and a lot of time.

Specialists calculate that more than two decades will be needed.
