The European Commission’s new proposal, which favours Albania: New EU members with full rights, but with one exception
In the new Enlargement Policy document, which the European Commission will make public on Tuesday, it has been proposed that, for candidate countries, at the moment they become EU members they have full rights, but with one exception.
A2 CNN reports that the EC will propose that new members not exercise the right of veto on enlargement issues, especially when there are bilateral disagreements.
According to the proposal, if Albania were to become an EU member, it would have the same rights as the existing members, with the exception that in EU Council meetings it may not use the veto when it comes to the accession of a new country.
