Assembly / Balla replies to Berisha and the Opposition: Whenever Kosovo needs Albania, Saliu calls for an attack on democratic institutions
The chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, has accused the opposition and former prime minister Sali Berisha of using developments in Kosovo to attack democratic institutions in Albania.
Speaking at today’s session in Parliament, Balla dwelt on developments in Kosovo and relations between the two countries, declaring that this situation is not new.
“It is never a coincidence that, from Rambouillet until today, whenever Kosovo has troubles and needs Albania, Saliu calls for an attack against Albania’s democratic institutions,” Balla declared.
He called on the opposition not to repeat the scenarios of 2019, when the Democratic Party abandoned the Assembly and the elections, warning that such decisions harm the country’s democratic functioning.
Balla also said that at a moment when Kosovo needs Albania’s support, Albanian politics should speak with a common voice.
“Do not forget that today more than ever Kosovo needs support from Albania, it needs a common voice,” Balla said.
In his speech, the head of the socialist parliamentary group also spoke about the administrative-territorial reform, the electoral reform and the European integration process, asking the opposition for cooperation to fulfil Albania’s obligations on the path toward the European Union.
Balla declared that the Electoral Reform Commission has a deadline until the end of November and stressed that the reform must be done with the opposition’s participation, but without allowing the integration process to be blocked.
