The police officer had just finished his shift: how the tragic accident in Korçë happened

New details have been made public by the Police about the tragic accident that occurred this morning on the “Korçë-Pogradec” road, near the village of Bulgarec, where a 60-year-old lost his life.

The incident was recorded at around 07:10, when the vehicle driven by a 30-year-old, an off-duty police employee, collided with a bicycle ridden by citizen R. A., about 60 years old.

According to the Police’s preliminary information, the collision was fatal for the bicycle rider, who lost his life at the scene.

At the moment of the accident, the driver of the vehicle, police employee D. M., was not on duty. After the collision, he was injured and was transported to hospital, where he is in a serious health condition.

Investigations have begun to fully clarify the dynamics of the accident. At the scene are the investigative group and officers of the Police Oversight Agency (AMP), under the direction of the Prosecution.

The authorities are carrying out investigative actions to determine the circumstances of the collision, while the forensic examination and other procedural actions are expected to shed more light on the causes of the accident.
