Skopje Marathon held today: 15,050 runners from 63 countries, roads closed until 14:00
Today, 4 October, the 22nd edition of the “Wizz Air” Skopje Marathon is being held, with a record number of participants — 15,050 runners from 63 countries, as the trn.mk portal reports.
The programme includes the 42.195-kilometre marathon, the half-marathon, the “EU for Sport” relay marathon and the 5-kilometre race. The marathon, half-marathon and relay start at 8:05 from “Dimitrie Cupovski” street, at “Rekord”, while the 5 km race starts at 8:00 at the Red Cross, on “11 October” street. The finish line for all races is at Macedonia Square, near the Porta Macedonia.
The main course stretches from Vlae to Aerodrom, while the 5 km race moves toward Aerodrom. Eight refreshment points have been set up along the courses for the marathon and half-marathon runners and one point for the 5 km race; medical assistance is provided at five points along the course, with mobile teams and a medical team at the finish.
Because of the marathon, a special traffic regime is in force today from 6:00 to 14:00: the streets and boulevards along the race route will be closed, starting from “Rekord” (“Macedonia” and “Dimitrie Cupovski” streets), while traffic will be redirected to alternative streets depending on the runners’ movement.
