The rise and fall of Dominik “Dirty Dom” Mysterio in WWE
Dominik Mysterio started as a promising contender in WWE, but during 2026 lost much of his shine due to the company’s creative handling. After a period as Intercontinental champion and AAA Mega title holder at the center of The Judgment Day, his performance and stage placement faded noticeably.
As Bleacher Report reports, Mysterio rose to prominence through early TV appearances and teaming with his father, Rey Mysterio. His transition from tag-team partner to a heel role within The Judgment Day, including the alliance with Rhea Ripley and then Liv Morgan, seemed to revive his career; he won the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania 41 and later the AAA Mega title.
Despite these successes, a shoulder injury at an AAA event after Survivor Series halted him unexpectedly. Mysterio missed the start of 2026, was pulled from the stage in the following months, and when he returned remained mostly in the background. Losing the Intercontinental title to Penta and not defending the title on TV for over two months, along with weak rivalries like those with Finn Bálor and Danhausen, further weakened his position.
During the summer, clashes with new names and lost finals — including elimination from King of the Ring in the semifinals and losing the AAA title at Triplemanía 34 — deepened the perception that Mysterio was sliding toward midcarder status. Still, he retains fan affinity and chances to recover, particularly through character reconstruction, winning events again, and keeping the alliance with Liv Morgan within The Judgment Day.
According to Bleacher Report, if WWE gives him a clear direction and credible winning opportunities, Dominik Mysterio still has potential to return to the top levels and even reach major titles again; this simply requires a creative plan that sustainably renews his career.
