The Socialists’ stance on Vlora Hyseni revealed at the Conference of Chairmen

The Socialist Party has made clear its stance regarding the investigation into the former director of the State Intelligence Service, Vlora Hyseni, demanding that the matter be left to the justice institutions and especially to SPAK.

The Socialist majority’s stance stresses that every suspicion raised by the prosecution body must be investigated and clarified to the end, through an independent investigation and trial process, without institutional interference or overlap.

The SP argues that Parliament cannot use the instruments of parliamentary oversight to duplicate or replace the prosecution’s competences, to verify evidence, to determine criminal facts or individual responsibilities.

“Let the system do its job,” the majority’s stance says, referring also to the statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that investigations against officials are proof that the justice system is functioning.

The Socialists also stress that they will not act as lawyers for any official who faces justice, regardless of whether that official was proposed, supported or voted for by them.

“Everyone is innocent until the final judgment, but no one is above the law in any case and for any reason,” the SP stance says.

Regarding Hyseni, the majority considers her immediate dismissal from office an example of this approach, while it attributes responsibility for the functioning and oversight of SHISH to the institutions defined by law, from the Prime Minister and the President, to Parliament, the Inspector General, the Supreme State Audit and the justice bodies.

The SP opposes Parliament’s interference in the content of the investigation and argues that investigative materials made public sporadically should not be used to influence public opinion.

According to the majority, only the full investigative and judicial process will determine whether there were violations or consequences related to national security or to Albania’s international partners.
